Warriors of the Light

Mission Statement

To unite people with the spirit of Native American ways.

About Us

We are people whose spirit is Native American although that is not necessarily what our body and
blood is. We believe our spirit is who we are in our life; therefore we do not require any testing of
the body to become a member of this tribe.
Since the start of the 1900s the elders at the Native American gatherings (Pow Wows) have become
concerned about the practice and spirit of the Native American ways being lost among the Native
born people. The elders knew that we are what our spirit is and saw that many non-Native Americans
who came to the gatherings were one in spirit, honor, and respect in the Native American ways.
Therefore, elders from some tribes have recently been giving their blessing for the gathering of people
of the same spirit.
The name ‘Warriors of the Light’ was adopted from two sources. One was from Wavoka, a Paiute
visionary, who envisioned in 1889 the Son of the Great Spirit dressed in a white robe. Also appearing
were warriors who were surrounded by a great, bright light. Wavoka’s interpretation was that the
warriors in this light would live forever. The second source comes from a tribe who was forced from
the White Mountain area of modern day New Hampshire and Maine to Wisconsin and Minnesota. There
they became part of many tribes that eventually became the Lakotah Nations as we know them today.
This tribe stayed in the mountaintops in the belief that they would be closer to the light of the Great
Spirit and felt they were part of the light that made all things as one on this earth.
After many years at gatherings and talking with many people it was decided that ‘Warriors of the
Light’ would be used as a tribal name in honor of the Native American way and to honor all Warriors
who have fought to keep their way of life. When the ‘Warriors of the Light’ have a gathering (Pow
Wow), their sole purpose is to show honor and respect towards each other and to practice the Native
American ways.

Membership

Prospective members must be recommended by existing members of the tribe. The member giving the
application must see and feel that the prospective member has a true full Native American spirit that
always was and can’t be changed. Applications may be obtained from existing members to fill out and
mail in with a processing fee. The new member will receive a tribal membership certificate, a copy of
our Mission Statement, and a blank application to make copies for other prospective members.
Notification of gatherings will be posted on the website, plus will be emailed to existing members. Any
member can hold a gathering and, if they wish, may post it on the main website or those of other
members. We have other ‘Warriors of the Light’ blank certificates available for the completion of classes,
vision quests, etc. held by our members to give to their students. These certificates can be emailed free
to members who guide and teach. Each member should be available to each other for the expansion and
growth of the tribe with honor and respect. There is no politically correct way at our gatherings (Pow
Wows). We share and assist each other in our own traditional ways.

Questions
Where is the main web site and do others have a site like this one?
There are several members in several states who run a membership web site. This site here keeps
track of all applications from other sites until the position is passed on. Each member is in touch with
the site they received their membership from. Any member may have a web site like this one.
How many blood born Native Americans and how many non-blood are there as
members?
That question is not on the application nor is it asked. Many have put that they are blood born and
gave their family tree without anyone asking. Last year at a gathering in Ohio there were many from
the Cherokee tribe and others from central states. The atmosphere was of friendship. That is why a
member has to give the application and that way there is more friendship and no arguing about
whether something is done right or wrong at our pow wows.
What are the other certificates mentioned for vision quest etc?
There are members who hold many classes/gatherings on drumming, vision quests, sweat lodges,
dancing, healing and other Native American ways. We have special certificates for completion of
any of these ways. The emblem and wording is emailed to the member who prints them out for
their students.
When are the pow wows and classes?
Some of us have links to other member sites who do offer these classes. Several of the pow
wows are run by individual members and we are trying to have them listed on the sites that
members have. If you are interested in any type of gathering or class just type that into a
search engine and if you want 'Warriors of the Light' just check the list to see if any of us are
holding the class. Pow wows will also be listed on powwows.com and other pow wow sites.
